The 2011 Gran-Bee
For the eighth time, the annual GEF Gran-Bee Trivia Contest drew a cheering crowd to the auditorium of Granby Memorial High School.
Twenty-six teams gathered in support of the event, which is the primary
fundraising vehicle for the Foundation’s Community Grant Program.
Gran-Bee committee co-chair Frania Fairchild facilitated the question and answer portion of the evening, ably leading teams through five swarms of play to the championship round. Questions ranged from actresses in Bruce Springsteen videos to the names of Chinese parlor games to the nationality of fictional characters in literature—all leading to the victory of team Bee S’s, sponsored by Tony Bussman Painting. The econd-time winners were gracious in victory and clearly happy to be back at the top of the hive. The GEF greatly appreciates the support of the sponsors, participants, volunteers, and attendees whose continued loyalty to the Bee helped raise approximately $12,000 for our General Fund!

Thank you to Bill Percival, GranBee Emcee 2004-2009!
One of the GranBee's many highlights is Granby’s own Bill Percival who has served as Master of Ceremonies. In 2004, he made his debut as the Nutty Professor, walking in on the unsuspecting crowd dressed in a lab coat with glasses, messy hairdo and hilarious false teeth. For the next several years the crowd was no longer unsuspecting but rather anticipating because everyone knew that Mr. Percival would not disappoint. Other roles played included: Boston Red Sox batting coach Ron Jackson, Carnac the Great, “Snape,” the potion master at Hogwarts from the popular Harry Potter books complete with a bagpipe processional. His entrance in 2009 went multimedia and was accompanied by a "Rocky" inspired opening video on the big screen. Thank you, Bill, for your years of dedication to this worthwhile and exciting town event!
